Amsterdam Fine Dining

During one of my many layovers to Amsterdam, I had the pleasure of visiting De Silveren Spiegel. An up and coming Michelin guide restaurant right in the center of Amsterdam a few blocks from the main central train station.

The restaurant is set in an old historic building built in 1614. It just has this old world ambience to it. From the vintage fireplace to the Small but cozy rooms. Great for a romantic dinner or perfect for a group to enjoy conversation. Or even solo, there’s free WiFi in a relaxed setting. Wine list was small but paired well with the menu options.
I walked into the restaurant at 5:00 p.m. without a reservation but out of season, in March 2018. I was lucky to get a table. I had a chance to peruse the menu. A lot of seafood choices, which is not my favorite. I like lobster, shrimp, scallops, but fish can be hit or miss. I love good tuna but the rest I’m iffy on.

I selected the three course tasting menu and the waiter altered the menu to accommodate me sans seafood. It was delicious. After the amuse bouche, my first course was a selection by the chef. I can not remember what it was. The first picture below is the amuse bouche followed by the first course. Next time i will write it down!

That was followed by the scrumptious pearl barley. Field mushrooms, egg yolk with a warm fenugreek cheese foam. The highlight of my meal. I would order this as a main course in a second.

The main course was the beef shoulder steak cooked to perfection. Followed by blood orange dessert. A mixture of orange, mocha and coffee flavors. Overall, just a nice range of well cooked delicious food. I would definitely recommend this traditional Dutch cuisine mixed with fine dining. Make sure to make a reservation as they were turning away guests all evening. I just got lucky since it was out of season and the restaurant just opened for the evening.
